Pet-Friendly, A Healthy Choice.
How condo living can be improved by pet ownership and how developers are making this eaasier.
For as long as humans have been utilizing animals for work, they have been domesticating them for pets as well. While many pets are selected because they are cute and cuddly, there are several more beneficial reasons to own pets. The Delta Society, a non-profit organization which researches the impact of animals on people's lives and lifestyles has shown that pet owners have lower blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Additionally, owning a pet decreases feelings of isolation and loneliness and contributes to a better psychological well-being. Owning a pet drastically affects children as well by increasing self-esteem, empathy and enhancing cognitive development.
Developers of new condo projects are responding to this by making more of their properties pet-friendly. Just a few of the new pet-friendly porjects now in development include 100 West 18th Street in New York, The Winchester in Chicago, and the Asia Brickell Key in Miami, FL. While each of these is a pet friendly building, it is always best to research the specific limits and rules set in place by that property's association. These may include weight and size limitations, as well as a cap on the number of pets allowed per unit. Even with these rules in place, having a pet to share you condo with can be very enjoyable by making it feel more homey and welcoming.
